Join NJICLE and the NJSBA Family Law Section for the Specialized Parenting Coordinator Training!

New Court Rule 5:8D – Parenting Coordinators - became effective on Sept. 1, 2023, establishing procedures for the appointment and functions of Parenting Coordinators, and creating a Statewide Roster of Approved Parenting Coordinators. Candidates seeking admission to the Statewide Roster must complete a minimum of 40 hours of training, including basic mediation training and at least 16 hours of specialized Parenting Coordination training.

To meet this training requirement, an experienced group of knowledgeable attorneys and mental health professionals will present a specialized two-day training program on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Through a mix of lectures, panel discussions, role plays and exercises, attendees will learn about the purpose and role of Parenting Coordination in New Jersey, and gain knowledge and understanding of the processes, techniques and special challenges involved in being an effective PC.

    Topics to be covered include:

    • Court rule and AOC guidelines governing Parenting Coordination
    • Process and techniques - including screening/intake, interviewing skills, scope of assignments, limitations of the role, educating parents and making recommendations
    • Family law as it relates to Parenting Coordination and parenting issues
    • Ethics – scope of authority, conflicts of interest, impartiality, grievances
    • Family dynamics and high conflict parents in the Parenting Coordination process
    • Special mental health issues
    • Domestic violence – screening, safety and process
    • Diversity, inclusion and cultural issues in Parenting Coordination
