8.2 credits including 2.4 in ethics! The topics you want! The speakers you need to hear!

Spring into March with the NJSBA Virtual Spring Conference! Don't miss this day long event on Zoom in which you can earn over 8 credits on topics that will help your practice bloom!

You'll gain insights from some of the state's top thought leaders on the topics that are crucial for you to stay ahead in 2024 and beyond.

A.I. and Ethics for Breakfast?! Yes, please!

Start the Day at the Intersection of Ethics & AI

Like a nice mug of coffee (or strong tea-take your pick) Stuart Teicher will wake you up and get those intellectual juices flowing with an entertaining yet informative segment on artificial intelligence. Stuart will guide you through the complex landscape of A.I. including the New Jersey Supreme Court's recently published guidelines on the use of A.I. Stuart will then discuss Chat GPT, the unofficial leader of the artificial intelligence movement.

In an accessible and easy-to-digest way, you will gain insights into what all of this means for your practice. The session will also pinpoint some of the many ethical challenges posed by AI, including issues related to confidentiality, safeguarding client information and supervision of non-lawyers. He will end the session with a decoding of the latest terms like "deep fakes" and "hallucinations" and answer your questions about this fast-moving technology that is changing the legal world and the world around us.

    Your conference, your way.

What would a virtual conference be without breakout sessions? We have two of them for you. Choose from several topics in tracks tailored just for you! Choose from these seminars that will enhance your practice:

    Breakout Session 1
Family Law - 2024 Legislative Updates
The legislature has been busy! Derek Freed and Sheryl Seiden will present a segment on the most important recent legislation for your practice.
    The New Expungement Law
Hear from experienced prosecutors and defense attorneys on the latest on clean slate expungement and how to help your criminal law clients get a fresh start in life.
Local Government Land Use Decisions – Friend or Foe?
Experienced practitioners will present a segment on recent holdings that will affect your land use practice so you can represent your clients with confidence in front of the zoning or planning boards.
Top 10 Tips for Winning a Motion to Dismiss
    R. 4:6-2 is winnable! A panel of litigators who have represented both sides in multimillion dollar cases will present the top tips for winning a motion to dismiss. Of course, defense attorneys will want to hear this too!

    Breakout Session 2
The ABC's of an Impactful CIS
There is nothing elementary about the CIS. Join Lois Kahagi and Kaitlyn Lapi as they present a program for experienced practitioners and recently admitted lawyers on the important preparation of a Case Information Statement.
    Municipal Court Judges' Roundtable
There are 530 municipal courts in New Jersey, many with their own preferences and procedures. This round table of municipal court judges will tell you what you can do to present your client's case in the most favorable way in their courts. You will see what they have in common, what they don't, and gain some insight into the decision-making process for all.
Landlord Tenant – A Primer on Procedure
Few things are as important to anyone as the place they call home. Join Moderator Diane K. Smith, the Hon. Stephen Petrillo, Tracey Goldstein and Michael G. Perez as they present this important segment on landlord tenant law.
Bad Faith in Insurance Contracts – for Both Plaintiffs and Defendants
Worsening weather and a worldwide pandemic both have led to increased insurance claims. Join certified civil trial attorneys as they present this segment on claim denial or unreasonable delay, and how you can prove it or defend against it.

We give you two special choices to wrap up your day.

A writing session from the judge who wrote "Boardwalk Empire" or an ethics session from an attorney who is the "go to" for so many who have found themselves in a malpractice case and an expert insurance carrier– we give you two special sessions to wrap up the day.
    • Writing with Style and Persuasion by Nelson Johnson:
As an attorney, your success depends on your ability to communicate effectively, regardless of the subject or audience. Your goal must be simple, unadorned prose; writing that is lean, strong, and free of embellishment. None of that comes effortlessly, but armed with the right strategies, it is easily achievable.

As an award-winning author ("Boardwalk Empire," "Battleground New Jersey," "Darrow's Nightmare"), retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge Nelson Johnson enjoys sharing the "tricks of the writing trade" that are rarely discussed in college or law school – yet are highly effective. The concepts he will share will help you to develop new habits that will build confidence and transform your writing style.

    • The Latest on Risk Management by USI Affinity
Join Mike Mooney, a Senior Vice President with USI Affinity and Robert B. Hille whose practice includes representing attorneys in malpractice cases and before the OAE as they present a vital segment about how to manage risk for yourself and your practice.

      Topics include:
The Risk - Areas and trends; RPCs setting the standards/the Baxt case applying the standards as evidence of malpractice.
Preventive Care -Using the RPCs as a guide; DOs and DON'Ts of practice; Ways to protect yourself
When Trouble Comes - Your Broker/Your Ally; Source of valued product, advice and risk management resource; Coverage Protection, know what you have.

The day will fly by. Join us for the Spring Conference and watch your practice bloom!
