Good morning Family Law Section members,

On Friday, July 29, NJICLE will present Webcast- The 2022 Jersey Shore Program - The Past, Present and Future of a National Treasure – CLE by the Beach from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The popular "Jersey Shore" program returns this summer virtually and a 2022 update!

New Jersey residents look forward to sunny days at the Jersey shore for fresh air, relaxation, and comfort – whether that means sitting on the beach reading a good book, surfing the perfect wave or catching a big fish.

While summer presents an opportunity to relax for many, it is a challenging season for Jersey Shore municipalities. Their officials and employees are hard at work ensuring that the towns are safe, clean and functioning well while dealing with the huge influx of people and the corresponding strain on resources. For many municipalities, the labor shortage has exacerbated the already difficult task of filling employment positions, including enough lifeguards to keep the swimmers safe. Towns have had to tackle other issues, such as weighing the pros and cons of allowing the now-legal recreational cannabis businesses in, be mindful that the public health risk of COVID-19 could still be a factor; find ways to support residents who have lost loved ones during the pandemic; give a hand to businesses that are trying to get back up and running and facing labor shortages, aid families in need when people have been furloughed or terminated – the list goes on.

The summer months also help to shine a spotlight on social justice issues such as how to redevelop parts of the town without pushing out its long-time residents and how to best ensure that all residents are treated equally and fairly.

Of course, we also know that shore towns aren't only summer towns. They operate all year and must maintain and collect taxes, operate their municipal courts, and maintain municipal services.

If you love New Jersey's beach towns, you won't want to miss this presentation that focuses on the Jersey Shore, both past and present. Based on the book "The Jersey Shore" by Dominick Mazzagetti, this program provides a modern retelling of the history, culture and landscapes of this famous region from the 1600s to the present with a focus on the legal and political disputes throughout its history. Some of the history has been bitterly disappointing, as major resorts and some shore town founders left a legacy that included racial intolerance. Some of the history has been thrilling, such as the pirates that roamed the shores. From swashbucklers to political bosses, bishops to moguls, sailors to whalers, each town has a fascinating history that helped shape its future.
