Good afternoon Family Law Section members,
On
Wednesday, Oct. 6, NJICLE will present
Webcast- Divorce after 50: Shades of Gray from
9 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.Bill and Melinda Gates are certainly unique financially, but their divorce is part of the growing trend of "gray divorce." Overall, divorce rates have dropped for younger age groups, but they have grown for seniors. And the trend presents some challenges for family lawyers, who must be prepared to address the unique issues faced by aging adults who are divorcing, to ensure that their clients are secure moving onto the next phase of their lives.
Older divorcing couples may need to address complicated matters in their settlements, including long-term care, assisted living, disability insurance, and medical insurance coverage. Other issues the frequently arise include alternatives to life insurance to secure support obligations, pensions in pay status, receipt of spouse's social security benefits, and policies to cover funeral expenses. The panel of our informative half-day format, presented on Zoom, reviews the issues and pitfalls every attorney must address when handling an elder divorce.
