Good afternoon Family Law Section members,
On
Tuesday, Sept. 14, NJICLE will present
Webcast- Alimony-What Every Lawyer Needs to Know from
9 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.Unlike child support, there is no set rate or formula for awarding alimony in New Jersey. As outlined in the 2014 Alimony Reform Act, judges need to consider several factors in determining an award. Still, none of those factors have a dollar amount attached to them, so each factor's impact on the overall award is open to interpretation. The job of persuading a court to award the supported spouse an alimony amount that will allow them to live a lifestyle reasonably comparable to the marital one falls squarely on the lawyer's shoulders. For this reason, attorneys need to understand the theoretical underpinnings of alimony - why judges award it, how they assess marital lifestyle, and under what circumstances they will modify an existing award.
Our seminar, presented by some of New Jersey's leading matrimonial attorneys, delves into all the factors that impact alimony and will help you craft persuasive, winning arguments for your family law clients.
