    On Tuesday, March 31, NJICLE will present a Webcast - A Conversation with Judge Carchman: A Different Perspective on the Law and the Legal Profession from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

    Live CLE Credit Requirement Suspended
    Effective immediately, the New Jersey Supreme Court has suspended the live credit requirement for continuing legal education credits. Until further notice from the Court, all twenty-four credit hours for the compliance period may be fulfilled via live webcasts, webinars and other alternative verifiable formats.

    This seminar features the Honorable Philip S. Carchman. Judge Carchman will be sharing the most fascinating aspects of his career and where he sees the legal profession heading, followed by a question and answer session. Attendees will walk away with not only great stories, but with unique knowledge and insight that is sure to enhance every attorney's career and practice.

    Following a judicial clerkship and service as a Deputy Attorney General, Judge Carchman was a member of the Newark and Princeton law firm of Carchman, Annich, Sochor & Shuster from 1967 to 1981. During that time, among other clients, he represented Princeton University, the Princeton University Press and the Institute for Advanced Study.

    Judge Carchman started his judicial career in 1973 when he was appointed to the part-time position of Municipal Court judge of Princeton Township and Princeton Borough. In 1981, Governor Brendan T. Byrne appointed him to the office of Mercer County Prosecutor, and he served in that position until 1986 when Governor Thomas Kean appointed Judge Carchman to the Superior Court of New Jersey. During his judicial career, he has served as presiding judge of the civil, family and general equity divisions.

    In 1995, he was appointed by Chief Justice Robert Wilentz to serve as assignment judge of the Mercer vicinage. Chief Justice Deborah Poritz appointed Judge Carchman to the Appellate Division in 1997. From 2004 to 2008, Judge Carchman took a leave of absence from the Appellate Division and was appointed the Administrative Director of Courts, where he served with three Chief Justices - Chief Justice Deborah Poritz, Chief Justice James Zazzali and Chief Justice Stuart Rabner. He returned to the Appellate Division in 2008, where he served until 2012 when he retired and went on recall status. He has authored over 1200 written opinions.

    Judge Carchman has sat in every judicial position in New Jersey including temporary assignments to the Supreme Court. He has also sat on numerous committees, including the Rules of Evidence Committee.

    Judge Carchman graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and obtained his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

    Over the course of his long and varied legal career, Judge Carchman has gained unique insight and perspective on the legal profession, including the ethics of the profession. During this intimate program, Judge Carchman will share with you the knowledge he has gleaned over the years that will surely enhance your own perspective and practice.
