We've all gotten spam / phishing emails like the one below. They seem to
come exclusively from Yahoo and AOL email addresses. If one of these email
accounts gets hacked, the scammer send these out to everyone in the
victim's contact list. Following the link will lead (at best) to a spam or
phishing website, at worst to a malicious site that can download malware
and cause serious problems.
I've received several in the last few months that contain a "CC list" that
is filled in with other email addresses. Without going into details, it's
now affected a case in that it contained Cc's of people who the person
"sending the email" (hacked) had denied knowing.
I'd suggest that people not use Yahoo or AOL for their official / office
emails. Getting your own server isn't tough or expensive these days and I
strongly suggest its worth the effort.
