Communicating through list serve postings with colleagues, who one may or may not have an in person relationship with, can be very tricky. I've seen this happen on other list serves.
I know Dave from law school. He and I do not see eye to eye on many issues. Yet, his goal has always been to be the best family law attorney he could be. He also cares deeply about the rights of family litigants who cannot afford counsel and takes on cases against the powers that be without a thought for his own bottom line. Though his postings might be interpreted as self-aggrandizing, I know they are not meant that way. Even if they were, it wouldn't matter to me since the issue he is posting about is on a family law topic.
I delete emails if a cursory glance shows they are of no interest to me. For me, it is a small price to pay to be able to participate in and learn from a forum like this.
I worry that taking colleagues to task for their postings will have a chilling effect on an open exchange of information and ideas. I would hate to see that happen here.
Take care, be well, Anne

I echo what Mary Jane, Cecilia and Wamaitha have said. I do understand Gerald's points. All of us do things for the benefit of others, i.e. pro bono work, that we receive no acclaim for and not everyone is comfortable sharing these things with others. But I feel that what Dave is doing has value, not just for those clients he represents, but for the family law listserve. There are some issues in his brief, such as right to counsel for indigents and substantive and procedural due process, that I have wrestled with in representing parents in child welfare cases, both for the Office of Parental Representation and as a pro bono attorney for LSNJ, so to me there is value in that exchange of information. At the end of the day, if it is of no interest to you, you should just ignore it. There are plenty of strings of posts that I see on this and other list serves that don't interest me (no offense :) and I just ignore them.

I too, appreciate Mr. Perry's updates through this forum, of this case. I have witnessed it grow from an idea to a plan and now an actuality. As an attorney who is still early in her career, Mr. Perry's contributions to this listserv have been and continue to be invaluable to me.

I join wholeheartedly in Mary Jane Leland's response to the comment of W. S. Gerald Skey criticizing the detailed reports sprinkled with lively and interesting incidental commentary by David Perry Davis, in his ongoing and commendable advocacy on behalf of those who unjustly lose their driver's licenses through support related suspensions. Mr. Skey can delete his unwanted messages easily, but I cannot see why he would seek to deny the rest of us the information - and the pleasure - of Mr. Davis' thoughtful messages.
