  • 1.  Service of process of a Egyptian citizen

    Posted 07-08-2015 05:51 PM

    Hi:

If retained, I will need to serve a defendant who lives in Egypt in a divorce action here. He is an Egyptian citizen (Christian Orthodox if that matters) and has never lived in the U.S. Wife is a legal resident of the U.S.

Can anybody give me some pointers/info on how service needs to be effectuated and what the approximate costs are?

    Thanks in advance.

This service has the best cost so far that I've seen for international
    service:

The guy, Rick, is very knowledgeable and helpful, too.

NJ Lawyers' Service does international service, too. But, they're expensive.

Here is the response I got from the source that Alexandra provided to me today.

Subject: FW: Service of Egyptian citizen in Egypt with NJ divorce complaint and summons

    Hi,

I can assist with process service to Egypt, this is done in accordance with The Hague Convention on the service abroad of judicial and extra judicial documents in civil and commercial matters. The cost of the service is $450. I work with the Ministry of Justice in Cairo to have the service done in compliance with the convention, they require complete translations of the documents to be served. I can assist with translations as well. Arabic translations runs $0.25 a word or roughly $50 a page, I can provide an exact price quote for this upon examination of your documents. Once I have everything needed, I'll submit the service request to the Egyptian authorities by FedEx. Egypt normally takes about six months to process service requests. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Hi,

You were recommended to me by Aleksandra Gontaryuk, Esq.

I ave a client who wants to file for divorce here in New Jersey. She is a NJ resident with a green card and her husband is an Egyptian citizen and resident and he has never lived in the U.S.

Can you advise what is involved, how much it would cost and how long the service of process would take once you have the necessary papers and payment? Thanks.

Looks like Turkey is but Egypt is not a signatory.

Crowe Foreign Services were highly recommended and I've asked them to serve someone in a rural area in India.  I'll keep you advised.
