  • 1.  Referrals for Middlesex County Child Psychologist

    Posted 06-13-2015 03:15 PM

Can anybody recommend a Middlesex County psychologist for an 11 year old boy whose non-custodial parent has, over the past couple of months, been exhibiting increasing preoccupation with the presence of Electromagnetic Fields from cell phones and household appliances?

The custodial parent has an FRO in place so there is very limited contact between the parents.  Most of information about non-custodial parents' actions relating to EMFs has been given to custodial parent by child after parenting time has occurred.

Although somewhat unusual for an FRO situation, parents have been agreeing to parenting time on an ad hoc basis to date.  Custodial parent does not permit overnight parenting time and non-custodial parent has not fought this.   But custodial parent wants child to have a therapist to speak with about recent EMF related behaviors and anything else the child would like to discuss.

Thank you in advance for your referrals and any comments or thoughts you might have on this situation.  They will be greatly appreciated by my client. Anne

Is she concerned that the NCP is having a psychiatric crisis, or about EMF's?  It sounded psychotic to me when I first read your post, but a quick Google search shows a lot of people are taking the issue seriously:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16304696

     https://www.google.com/search?q=Electromagnetic+Fields&oq=Electromagnetic+Fields&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&q=Electromagnetic+Fields+behavior

Sometimes FRO's can get in the way... if she's not sure whether he's losing it or just eccentric.  Are they at least permitted to email each other?  Perhaps she could feel out a little better what's going on if she could say (via email) that their son seems very concerned about the issue and see what his response is.

As far as therapists, the first answer is always to check with insurance.  If that's not an issue / not going to help, then I'd look at various directories that are online and see who looks like a good fit.  Here's one:  https://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/prof_results.php?sid=1434233870.1966_17692&county=Middlesex&state=NJ&rec_next=21

Be sure to ask around and Google the hell out of anyone you're thinking of going to.  As many recall, there was a psychologist in Middlesex who has now had her license revoked who was, due to her own deep psychiatric issues, finding sexual abuse to exist where it didn't, trying to implant memories in kids, coercing parents to lie about this issue, lying to judges about what had been said by people (thank God for our one-party consent laws on taping), etc.  The lives she destroyed can never be repaired (I had two clients who were her victims).  A Google search would've put up red flags before the State finally took it seriously and revoked her license.

Anyway, I've heard the name Leslie Bronstein in Middlesex, but no personal experience (and haven't even Googled her LOL).  Dr. Alan Gordon is good, but he's closer to Mercer I think (one Route One somewhere).

Maybe getting a good therapist would help these folks on a lot of fronts....
