I have an upcoming default hearing in which my client (Wife) historically had little involvement in the parties' finances. The husband previously did quite well financially but now has serious substance abuse issues and is unlikely to appear for the default hearing or retain counsel.
My client was searching the home for financial records and discovered that the parties had been audited in prior years ('14 and '15) and the IRS disqualified many questionable itemized deductions, leaving them with a 100k tax obligation, which is probably higher now as a result of penalties/interest.. She also learned that no returns were not filed for '16 or '17.
I'm familiar with the concept of innocent spouse relief but want to refer her to someone who can specifically advise her and assist her with proceeding with the IRS as well as assist her in filing returns for '16 and '17.
Any recommendations near Mercer County would be appreciated.
