    RE: 5G (Fifth Generation) Technology

Dear President Keefe and Members of the Board of Trustees:

I have not received a reply to my letter of November 7, 2018. I realize that your time is important, but NJSBA members and New Jerseyians need to know your position regarding the wireless industries plan to deploy thousands of microwave antennae throughout New Jersey's public right-of-way.

As you know, California Gov. Jerry Brown recently sided with local governments' authority to control the public right-of-way by vetoing Senate Bill 649.[1] The Bill would have allowed wireless carriers to install cell towers every couple of hundred feet apart along residential areas. In Hillsborough, California, residents also blocked plans to build 16 cellphone towers in their town of 11,000 residents.[2] While these public victories have led telecoms to push even harder against the public's wishes, New Jersey should be at the forefront of protecting the public's health, property, and privacy rights. Instead, New Jersey Bill AR144, introduced on March 13, 2018, intends to pave the way for the wireless carriers to install and operate thousands of small cells in the public right-of-way.[3]

It's simply irresponsible to just let this happen. Transparency International defines corruption as "the abuse of entrusted power for private gain". Which is exactly what's happening here with New Jersey wireless carriers being allowed to pimp out our state and local governments.

Again, I look forward to hearing from you.

    Very truly yours,
    William N. Sosis, Esq.
