A colleague of mine from Maryland who is a public interest attorney working with victims of human trafficking is seeking pro bono counsel for a custody and parenting time matter in Passaic County. My pro bono calendar is filled at the moment, so I hope someone is interested. Here is a case description:
The client is a survivor of sex trafficking and has a child in common with her former pimp. Dad was able to gain full custody of the child in court through a default hearing because mom had to flee from dad due to abuse. Dad let mom have child for the summer. We just got a protective order against dad for the mom on Friday and then dad took the child back to NJ.
It's a really interesting case, dad posts plenty of material relating to pimping and prostitution online. However, he has been the sole caregiver of the child for most of his life, has the child in school, etc. Mom wants full custody, but I'm not sure how attainable that will be.
If anyone is interested, let me know and I will put you together with the legal center handling the woman's work in Maryland. I do not know what financial resources they might have for experts, etc.
