A child was born in the Dominican Republic and is Dominican. Mother is Dominican. My client is Haitian and doubts he is the father. ??No determination of paternity was done in DR.?? Now, 5 years later, mother and child are in NY, my client is in NJ all are here on green cards.?? Mother has brought a case for paternity. Question: Does the NY Courts have jurisdiction to determine paternity of the Dominican Republic child?

    Any ideas?

Usually, yes, once a child is present in a state, the parentage laws of that state allow for the determination of parentage.
