    Good Morning All,

I've been appointed GAL on a divorce matter for two pro se litigants and I need to locate some divorce mediators for the litigants who reside in Passaic County and I also need some suggested Reunification Therapists preferably in Passaic County.  Any suggestions and contact info would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

    Richard:

Not to be difficult, but I did not think there was a certification for family law mediation. Am I wrong?

You are correct.  Currently, there is no certification for Divorce or Civil Mediators in New Jersey.  You can merely state that your are a "Court approved" Rule 1:40 Mediator (if you are).  Also,  the NJAPM accredits mediators with the title: "Accredited Professional Mediator" or "APM"  for Family and for Civil Mediation.

Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

I have twice now gone through separate 5 day programs for family law mediation training and separately went through the week long family law institutes family law mediation training program.

Okay. I respect that and I am sure you are very qualified.

I just wanted to know if there is an actual certification to call yourself a certified family law mediator.

I think the distinction is that you can be approved for the court roster but there is no certification through the state. NJAPM does accredit mediators that meet their requirements. They do not provide a general certification though. It can be confusing. In my mind continuing training and practice are key.

No. There is no such thing as a recognized certified mediator in NJ

I believe all you can show is that you are a "Qualified Family Law Mediator Per Rule 1:40"

Debra Castaldo , Phd would be a good choice if she is still doing this type of work.

I would be happy to mediate. I am court approved to provide economic mediation.

I am mediator in Passaic county and sometimes appointed by the court on matters  my office is in Passaic County.  I would
Also recommend Dr. Amie Wolf-Melham as the therapist. Excellent and relatively inexpensive in comparison.
