One week ago today, Governor Chris Christie signed S-873 which permits adoptees and certain others to obtain adoptee's original birth certificate and other related information.
The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education is presenting a webinar on this topic featuring your fellow section members:
Debra Guston, Esq. from the LGBT Rights Section and
Donald Cofsky, Esq. from the Family Law Section.
New Jersey Birth Record Access Reform - a webinar is scheduled for
Wednesday, June 25 from 12 to 12:50 p.m.
NJ CLE information: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for
1.0 hours of total CLE credit.

$89. The lunchtime webinar highlights the salient points of the new legislation including: • Who has access to an adoptee's original birth certificate
• The elimination of language that allowed a court to replace the name of the child's birthplace with the adopting parents residence
• Roles of the State Registrar and the Department of Health
• Opportunities and timeframe for birth parents to indicate a preference regarding contact with surrendered children
• What if birth parents want no contact
• Opportunities for birth parents to provide family history information and how it will be recorded and disseminated
• What the act does and does not do
