  • 1.  Name change for minor

Biological mother and father are not married at the time of the birth of their child. Child takes Moms last name. Parents are together now and married. They want to change the child's last name to that of the father. Do I just do a normal name change verified complaint mother making certifications?

    Kevin,

Yes, I think it's a normal minor-child name change, since nobody will object. You may need cert from Dad, but that will be easy.

    Regards,

I've done this via a simple consent order with success.

<x-tab>        </x-tab>1. The name of the minor child is hereby changed to John Doe (DOB 1/1/2015).

And if the child is under a certain age (7? 5? Don't recall exactly), you can just amend the birth certificate through the Department of Vital Statistics - no court order necessary.

I'd look into these before going through the whole expensive, time-consuming name change process.
