  • 1.  Military Divorce - North Carolina

    Hello All --

    I was contacted by a PNC who resides in North Carolina at Fort Bragg. He is a First Lieutenant with the Army.  The parties have only been married for a year.  His wife has relocated back to New Jersey in the last month, and she is pregnant.  He wants to file for divorce (and eventually may need assistance with the paternity of the child). Another layer of complication is that there is a no contact order between the parties under military regulations.

    Any referrals for attorneys in North Carolina who are familiar with military families and regulations would be greatly appreciated!

    I'm not sure if LTC Grant Robinson is on the list or not, so I'm cc'ing him. He was active duty Army for many years and is my "go-to" person on military Family Law cases (his office is in Mount Holly, but I think he travels the area).

    One piece of advice - I know we will give the standard speech about avoiding any possible DV allegation. That goes triple for people in the military. Make sure your client is aware that a single act of DV, including actionable harassment, is a career-ender.
