    What is the maximum time you need to hold on to a client's file in New Jersey?  Please point me to the authority.

    Angela,

      I think you mean to ask what the minimum time is.

      Minimum amount of retention time for closed files is seven years. "Property of the client," defined in the ethics opinions identified below, must be held indefinitely. (That's why I never hold "property of the client.")
