  • 1.  "Mandatory" parent education class

    I've got a client whose case is completely settled and he's just trying to get an uncontested divorce. The court is telling him that he still needs to go to the parent education class. IIRC, I've had clients who haven't gone and suffered no consequences, but I just wanted to ask around and see if anyone has dealt with this. Camden County.

    I have sent letters to the judge asking my client to be excused.  Some judges allow it if it's a settled case, some judges still require it.  Once in a while, I have had the court require that the FJOD include a caveat that the parties shall attend the Parents Education Workshop prior to filing any post-judgment application regarding custody or parenting time in the future.
