Hello Family Law Section members,
On
Monday, Dec. 23, NJICLE will present
Lawyer Well-Being and Its Effect on Professionalism and Ethics from
2 to 5:35 p.m. at the
New Jersey Law Center.
This program is also available via a
LIVE WEBCAST.
Most of us care for our physical bodies. We watch what we eat, exercise, and try to do the right things to stay healthy. But many lawyers fail to realize that we must take affirmative steps to remain emotionally healthy so that we can serve our clients effectively. Without proactively managing our emotional well-being, our emotions can overwhelm us and left unchecked, can leave us susceptible to depression, addictions, other conditions, which can undermine our competence, skill, and professionalism and expose us to malpractice liability and disciplinary problems.
At this informative program, three highly-regarded professionals from New Jersey's Lawyer's Assistance Program (NJLAP) will discuss the importance of mental wellness in the practice of law and will provide you with practical strategies to achieve balance in your personal and professional lives.
FACULTY
William John Kane, Esq., the Founder and Executive Director of the New Jersey Lawyers Assistance Program (NJLAP) will review how unaddressed problems can impact practices and subject attorneys to ethical and professional difficulties. He will share guidance about what to do if you think you, or a colleague, needs help. He will also discuss how attorneys can take care of themselves while they take care of others, so they practice ethically and competently.
Ray Ortiz, Esq., an NJLAP Attorney Coordinator for 20 years, will discuss neuroscience discoveries about brain function, and how it can impact decision-making and conduct.
