Of' COUNSEL
RE : Nomination of Nancy Smith for Second Vice President of
the NJSBA
Fellow Bar Association Members:
I strongly urge you to support the nomination of Nancy Smith for
Second Vice President of the NJSBA. Nancy is a distinguished trial
lawyer with a lengthy history of service to the bar , and to advocating
on behalf of women, minorities , the disenfranchised, and victims of
discrimination.
Nancy ' s numerous verdicts and s ettlements on behalf of victims
of discrimination are well known to members of the bar. Her work in
a number of landmark cases has inuneasurably advanced the fields of
Employment Law and Civil Rights in NewJersey .
Nancy's extensive work outside the courtroom, through her
commitment and efforts on behalf of her community, has been
particularly remarkable. She is a founder of Wynona ' s house, a child
advocacy center in Newark that has been instrumental in the treatment
and prevention of child abuse . The center is now a national model for
the prevention and treatment of child abuse.
Nancy and her husband and partner , Neil Mullin, tirelessly worked
pro-bono for well over a decade on behalf of an inmate wrong£ully
convicted and jailed. Nancy and Neil ultimately won freedom for this
innocent man.
I believe that the New Jersey State Bar Association should do
more to recruit and serve the needs of women and minority attorneys
in the state. Nancy 's 30 year legal career advocating on behalf of
women, minorities, and the less fortunate, and her compassion,
perseverance and drive leaves no doubt t hat Nancy will reach out to
every group in the state and make us all proud to be members of the
New Jersey State Bar Association.
I strongly urge you to support the nomination of Nancy Smith for
Second Vice President of the New JersGy Sta t e Bar Association.
