  • 1.  Int'l Divorce Decree

    Hi all,

I have a client who was married in CA, then subsequently told that Guatemala (her home country) did not recognize the parties' marriage. Married her husband again in Guatemala, and subsequently, and under duress, also divorced in Guatemala. Divorce decree glaringly omits any mention of CA marriage, a number of their children (only mentions one), inter alia. Is this divorce valid? Should she get divorced again here? If not, what is the remedy of her divorce under duress in Guatemala? She was repeatedly abused by her husband and she has therapy records and, although I don't have a copy, a restraining order out of CA.

It's a first one for me and I'd appreciate any and all input!
