Smedley Law Group is a growing, woman-owned family law practice based in Woodbury, New Jersey (Gloucester County). We foster a friendly and collegial atmosphere-we're looking to hire an associate with a minimum of four (4) years of experience to join our practice in Woodbury. While having completed a family law clerkship is valuable experience in any practitioner's career, it isn't a requirement for this position. What we value is more important than a line item on a resume: We're looking for the willingness to work hard, tenacity, and a hunger to grow. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience, paid time off, a supportive and engaging working environment, and most importantly, a platform where you can generate business and make a name for yourself.
The right fit is extremely important; that's why you must possess the following qualifications to be considered for this position:
- Have family law experience (this is a must)
- Be able to hit the ground running with existing cases
- Be able to manage multiple files and deadlines with minimal oversight
- Willing to take ownership of assigned tasks and take initiative as needed
- Curious enough to handle issues and matters unfamiliar to you
- Have outstanding client service/management skills, including the maturity to have the money conversation.
- Employ a creative mindset to facilitate case negotiation and settlement
- Possess strong writing skills, including editing, proofing, and revising your own work
- Have attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Have a deep desire to build your own book of business
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset and always be on the lookout for ways to grow the practice
- Appreciate and / or be willing to learn the business of running a law practice
- Be willing to do what needs to be done to get the job done
- Have an interest in collaborating and strategizing on cases
- Be genuinely interested in family law and have the curiosity and desire to constantly improve your skill set as a litigator
- Be a team player who avoids drama and maintains a sense of humor
- Possess a high degree of integrity
- Willingness to get involved in the local bar association and other networking opportunities to grow your business
- Live within a reasonable commuting distance from our Woodbury office
If you feel like you just read your own resume and are ready to make a change, here's how to apply:
1. Send an email to [email protected].
2. The subject line should reference this posting.
3. Attach your resume. Don't attach a cover letter; instead, the body of the email should contain your name, why you want to leave your current job, why you decided to practice family law, and why you think your skills and experience make you the best fit for this opportunity.
All inquiries will be kept strictly confidential.
