Hello Family Law Section and Civil Trial Bar Section members,
The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education is presenting
Finance for Lawyers: An easy-to-understand crash course on the key concepts you need to know on Monday,
Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the
New Jersey Law Center.
Lawyers are often called upon to provide counsel on financial matters. Having a solid knowledge of financial principals and concepts is crucial for every "well rounded" attorney.
Learn to listen like an accountant (A.K.A. what to look for) Like it or not, lawyers need to worry about their clients' money. They do not have to be accountants or financial analysts, but they must know how to listen like accountants and financial analysts in order to have a thorough understanding of their clients' financial situation. This seminar provides you with a proven, workable approach for attorneys to learn financial concepts.
Be ready when you're called on to provide counsel on financial matters. Possessing a modest understanding of key elements of finance is important in assisting your clients with their problems and in meeting their objectives and goals. The more you understand, the better you're able to counsel clients with confidence, and use your financial understanding to their advantage during negotiations or litigation.
Clients are often involved in sophisticated business deals. Are you able to understand and analyze financial transactions? This seminar will give you the basics of the essential financial components necessary for your clients' success. Once you understand accounting principles, you'll be able to understand a financial statement, formulate successful inquiries, and communicate effectively with business and financial colleagues.
Learn key financial concepts and strategies to help resolve your clients' problems and meet their goals and objectives, including: - How lawyers can add value to the financial function of a company
- The basic equation of finance
- "Who's who" in financial reporting
- Key numbers and ratios
- Business valuations
- Concepts of financial investment
- Private Company Accounting
- The Lawyer's Role in Financial Audits
