    Hello Family Law Section members,

The NJSBA Family Law Section, Paralegal Committee and New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education are presenting Family Law for Paralegals & New Attorneys: A 2015 Update on Wed., Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel Eatontown.

I am writing to you so that you can have the opportunity to register your paralegals or new attorneys for this program specifically designed for paralegals, legal assistants and new attorneys who handle family law matters.

The program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 4.5 hours of total CLE credit. Of these, 4.5 qualify as hours of credit toward certification in matrimonial law.

If your new attorneys are Young Lawyers Division or Family Law Section members, they can save 25 percent off the general tuition. The tuition for YLD and Family Law Section members is $97.50

Paralegals save 35 percent off the general tuition. The tuition for paralegals is $84.50.

    The general tuition is $130.

The seminar will focus on the technical requirements, skills and techniques they need to have in order to provide meaningful support in a family law practice. Delve into Court Rules, review the CIS and other forms and how to complete them, and learn effective techniques for preparing motions and pendente lite applications. It’s also a great brush-up for attorneys who understand the law behind “basic” family law cases, but not necessarily the mechanics of bringing or defending a family law case.

Pick up a comprehensive roadmap to effectively handle the most common areas of family law practice, including:

    • Update on alimony reform
    • The role of the paralegal in the law office: phones calls, screening, relationship to attorneys, clients and other office staff; ethical considerations
    • Case information statement: what has to be in it, what doesn’t; ethical issues in preparation
    • Child support guidelines: what they cover, what they don’t and why they are important; ethical issues
    • Pendente lite applications and post
    • Judgment motions for support: what judges want to see
    • Basic family law accounting and tax returns
    • Pre-trial, subpoenas, discovery, trial binder, working with clients, organizing files
    • The role of the paralegal in preparing for ESPs and early settlement conferences
    • Other ethical considerations for attorneys and paralegals
      ... and more

The faculty includes: Moderator/Speaker: John DeBartolo; Speakers: Matthew Abatemarco, R. Gunteski, Angela Scarfuri and Mara Zazzali-Hogan
