Thank you to those who have contacted me.  Let's here from others. . .

Can we rely on a emancipation being a term that means something or not?

    Thanks,

    Jill

The emancipation law is still the same.  the new statute was enacted for. purposes of probation enforcing no collecting only.  (NJAJ Boardwalk had an hour seminar on the new statute.)

    Thanks Alice,

The new statute deals only with child support, and specifically omits any reference to emancipation, ostensibly because emancipation means that all rights and obligations are extinguished, no ?

My understanding is that just because child support ends (no later than age 23), under the new statute,  if a child is not emancipated, there can be obligations , like contribution to higher education, that continues without an ongoing obligation to pay child support.

So, what is our understanding of emancipation?  Does it have meaning or is it subject to interpretation?

What and where is the "emancipation law"?
There is no statute. There is case law.

I suggest that the case law gives us strong public policy but the appellate division is saying it does not. What do you and others think?

Do we need it to be defined in a statute for it to be construed to be public policy ?
