This isn't really a family law question, but I have been trying to get feedback from any attorneys using Cosmolex.

I have been using Easy Soft combined business and trust accounting for a couple of years and have been very happy with it.  It is cloud based, but you have to access citrix to get in, something I don't find to be a big problem.  Anyway, I received a call that their "sister company" Cosmolex was taking over the accounting services (not the real estate and family).  Cosmolex is purely cloud based log in, you don't need citrix.  You can access from any computer or mobile device.  I sat through a webinar on how the program works and it is very similar conceptually to the Easy Soft, just has a different user interface.  But all the reports and invoices are the same.  I was told I could remain with Easy Soft, although they didn't know how long that would be supported.  They claim to be able to do a conversion, just import all my data and all my defaults would even come in.   I'm just nervous about doing this.  It took me a while to get things exactly the way I want with the business and trust accounting and I would hate to have to start all over again.  Does anyone have any experience with Cosmolex?  Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Clara

    Clara:

Did you do the free trial that they offerprior to converting?  I did it and I really did not like it, but I wouldsuggest that you do that before committing to the change.

I had a session where the tech showed me how it worked on my computer.  We got into the program and he showed me all the functions.  It's very similar to Easy Soft and I don't think there is much of a learning curve.  Is that what you are referring to?  Do you currently have Easy Soft?

    Thanks,
    Clara

I use Easy Soft for my CIS and Easy TimeBilling (which is an Easy Soft product) and I like both a lot.  I think maybe I'mjust resistant to change and afraid I'd lose something in theconversion.  Did you create an actual sample invoice?  If so, was it similar tothe Easy Soft program?

The invoices and reports are exactly the same.  The user interface is I think a little better. It seems like it will be fine, but I also am resistant to change when what I have is working. It took me a long time to get to this point.  I started with two separate Easy Soft business and trust programs and when the joint program came out, I couldn't just import all the data. I brought the business over and had to phase out the old trust program and start a new one and it was very difficult.  I've had  everything working great now for about a year and I just  hate the thought of conversion  hiccups again.

    Clara:

Both Easy Soft and CosmoLex are run by same person, Rick Kabra, whom I know him well from a professional standpoint. I believe the point of splitting the business into two entities was done to manage growth of each division/entity. Easy Soft is adding new products in Family Law and Real Estate areas. CosmoLex is a pure cloud-based billing & trust accounting system which is quite popular with solos and small firms. Both companies are in same building, have the same management, and both work very closely with NJSBA. Rick speaks at many NJSBA/ICLE events so there is no reason to be concerned about CosmoLex. Rick and I have even presented together on occasion.

I suggest you evaluate the new cloud platform for the merit of the product and how well it fits your practice. You should rest assured that the software engineers are there to help you with any issues you might have in application of any of the programs. I have been very pleased with customer/technical support provided by EasySoft which I use.

Thank you, Gary.  That was very helpful.  I feel much more comfortable doing the conversion.
