Collecting on a Docketed Judgment

  • 1.  Collecting on a Docketed Judgment

I was successful in my application in the Law Division for an Order entering judgment against defendant/former client (in accordance with Rule 1:20A-3) following fee arbitration.  I have applied to the Clerk in Trenton to have my judgment recorded as a state-wide lien,  I now have a copy of my judgment marked "Recorded as a Lien" and it is assigned a "J" number.  I am now considering collection.

I've come upon a number of resources for seeking collection of judgments in the Special Civil Part.  My judgment is in the Law Division and exceeds the limit of the Special Civil Part, but I wonder if the procedure for collection is the same?  Former client is gainfully employed, so I wonder if my best option is to seek an order for wage garnishment.  Levies on bank accounts and personal property seem to require the assistance of a sheriff.  I'd like to avoid involving a sheriff.  Does anyone have any suggestions for collection on a Law Division judgment?  Thanks.
