Larry,
Roz is absolutely correct about the basic membership requirements of the
IACP and most of the Collaborative Practice Groups in NJ. Collaborative
Practice is a very nuanced form of ADR, especially when handled in the
interdisciplinary form. While there are technically no special registration
or other requirements needed to practice in the collaborative divorce area
other than those specifically prescribed by the New Jersey Family
Collaborative Law Act, most practitioners should seriously consider learning
more about the process to see exactly what sets it apart from other process
choices available to clients including litigation and mediation as there are
significant differences. Another great resource beside those cited by Roz
is the New Jersey Council of Collaborative Practice Groups, the umbrella
organization of all of the Collaborative Practice groups in the
State-collaborateNJ.org.

Hi Larry:
Welcome to a new way of practicing divorce law! In order to be able to list yourself as a collaboratively-trained attorney, you would need to take basic collaborative divorce law training, usually 16 hours, plus a certain amount of mediation training. There are several Collaborative Law groups in New Jersey and each group has its own requirements for membership. You would likely want to explore the groups in North Jersey like the Collaborative Divorce Association of North Jersey - http://collaborativedivorceassociationofnorthjersey.com/. The International Association of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) is also a wonderful resource for you. Good luck and feel free to reach out to me for additional information!
