CLE on Jan. 11 | Persuasive Storytelling and Presentation Skills for Lawyers | Thriving in the Law as a Millenial

  • 1.  CLE on Jan. 11 | Persuasive Storytelling and Presentation Skills for Lawyers | Thriving in the Law as a Millenial

    Posted 01-01-2020 03:28 PM
    Hello Family Law Section members,

On Saturday, Jan. 11, NJICLE will present two seminars of interest to all lawyers.

NJICLE will present Persuasive Storytelling and Presentation Skills for Lawyers on Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center.

The best story wins. Without a strong narrative, even the strongest evidence can still fail to be persuasive. To engage a jury, judge, court personnel, opponent, or prospective client, a successful advocate identifies the essential intention, says it directly, and leaves out the smokescreens. Learn how to engage the jury by giving the case story a dynamic narrative, and how to tell the story between the words by improving vocal inflection and body language. With concepts drawn from years in professional acting and public speaking, David Mann will share the secrets of powerful, engaging presentations that can apply to openings, closings, mediations, arbitrations, depositions, witness preparation, witness interrogation, oral arguments, or prospective client interviews.

    FEATURING
    David Mann
    National Institute of Trial Advocacy
    Founder, Simple Message
Adjunct Professor, Loyola University College of Law

David Mann is a story specialist who teaches attorneys and business leaders how to make an impact by clarifying their message. He has combined his decades of experience as an actor, director, and playwright with the needs of attorneys and business leaders to help them win cases for their clients and grow their businesses.

In addition to his work with The Professional Education Group, David is on the faculty of Loyola School of Law and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He has constructed opening statements for winning verdicts in cases ranging from medical malpractice to securities fraud.

A professional theater artist for over two decades, David has performed or directed for the Guthrie Theater, The Children's Theatre Company, and Great River Shakespeare Festival. He has written and performed several critically acclaimed one-man shows and plays, and he is a recipient of a Bush Artist Fellowship for Storytelling. David is a graduate of Northwestern University and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

NJICLE will present Thriving in the Law as a Millennial: A Unique CLE Roundtable Designed To Help You To Advance Your Career on Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center.

This seminar is also available via a LIVE WEBCAST.

If you’re a “Millennial” (anyone born between 1981 and 1996), this program is for you.

    You Face Real Challenges
Millennials like you are, and will continue to be, a large component of the legal profession. In fact, by 2029 a whopping 75 percent of law firm staff will be Millennials. However, this “changing of the guard” is not always easy. While new generations always bring new ways of doing things, new world views, work/life attitudes and more, sometimes attempts to share new ideas, new methods, new ways of doing things, and work can lead to an unintended disconnect, and in extreme cases even discord between generations.

It's Important To Understand The Best Ways To Communicate and Navigate Around Potential Issues
Millennials can bring a lot of valuable resources and many positive attributes to the table. Yet, if you want to succeed within the structure of “traditional law,” then it’s essential to know how best to navigate that structure by working with certain established norms, at least in some ways, to the expectations of your managing partner(s), judges, and older clients. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to pick up new strategies to do exactly that – register to attend the first ever Millennials in the Law Roundtable to discuss the issues that are important to YOU! This isn’t a lecture; instead, it’s an interactive event where you can exchange ideas with other Millennial lawyers about everything and anything that impacts you in the profession and how you can best address those issues to succeed professionally.
Register today to take advantage of this invaluable learning opportunity – we’ll also keep the mood of the roundtable upbeat, fun and progressive We’d love to see you there!
