Hello Family Law Section members,
On Thursday,
June 1, NJICLE and the NJSBA Senior Lawyers Committee will present
Autism Across the Life Span: Legal Issues From Diagnosis to Adult Services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
New Jersey Law Center.
The number of individuals diagnosed with autism nationwide has more than doubled since 2000, and more than 3 million people in the United States are afflicted with some form of the disorder.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in every 68 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism. New Jersey has the highest rate of autism in the country (1 in every 45 children), and more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than diabetes, cancer, and AIDS combined.
Given the increased incidence and alarming rate of autism in New Jersey, an increasing number of attorneys are encountering situations arising from/impacted by it. Moreover, there are many legal issues surrounding planning, services, and support. Finally, with more and more autistic children entering adulthood, there is also a new found interest in accessing adult services.
At this timely new seminar, you will gain a working knowledge of the most pressing legal considerations posed by autism, and how you can assist individuals with autism and their families.
