I'm resolving a DV TRO in Hunterdon via civil restraints. One of the conditions is that defendant receive anger management therapy with a provider who has specific DV experience (preferably court appointed). Has anyone heard of the below and/or does anyone have a recommendation? The DV incident was serious, physical violence with chilling threats - we need someone with experience. Thanks.

    David,

Anger Management is not an effective treatment for batterers.  It is more appropriate that the batterer attend a Batterer's Treatment Program.  The New Jersey Coalition Against Domestic Violence has a list of approved programs on its website.  Here is the link:

    http://www.njcedv.org/help/batterers-intervention-programs/

It might be that the batterer can also benefit from individual therapy, but that should not be the only treatment ordered.  I hope this helps.

Just a quick reminder since I know we've picked up a bunch of new members ... if you want to post a message on a new topic, you have to click the option reading "  Post New Message ." (assuming you're doing this from your email program and not on the website). If you click on " Reply to Group " and just click Reply in your email program, it will continue the thread / subject header. It will do this even if you change the "Subject" on your email (the list-serv will change it to the original one listed).

For example, if you received a message with the subject header "RE: Family Law : Anger management in Hunterdon" and just click "Reply" and change the subject to "Referral needed for
Amherst MA", your message will come through to the list under the header "RE: Family Law : Anger management in Hunterdon", but the body of the message will be on the referral request.
