Hello Environmental Law Section and Family Law Section members,
The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education is presenting an
Advanced Brief Writing Workshop on
Thursday, Feb. 13 at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick.
Learn the 8 key strategies you need to know to take your briefs to the next level Register today for this unique opportunity to take your briefs to the next level. As an attendee, you'll walk away with new strategies, tools and other pointers designed to help you get ahead of your competition. Using an advanced approach, you'll discover new ways to:
- Grab the Court's attention in a compelling way
- Convince the Court that a case is strong (even when it is not)
- Set up the groundwork for a winning oral argument
An Interactive Approach This workshop will be interactive. The first part will involve reviewing the keys to modern effective brief writing. The second will involve applying them in a hands-on way by working on short passages for hypothetical briefs, some of which will be shared (on a voluntarily basis, of course) and discussed within the group. By the end, you'll walk away with the confidence you need to prepare the strongest briefs possible.
An essential workshop that even the most accomplished brief-writers will find useful!
Brief Writing Principles The workshop will include sets of easy to remember essential rules that can be applied to most briefs, including:
- How to avoid common grammatical errors
- How to avoid common narrative errors
- How to advocate through your legal writing
- How to write a brief that will make a weak case appear strong
- How not to cross the line from advocating to being overbearing
Please Note This program will feature writing exercises. Attendees should bring a laptop or tablet to the seminar.
