Dear Commission Members, Advisory Committee Members and Liaisons:
The ABA Working Group on Unaccompanied Minor Immigrants is organizing a webinar series for state court judges on SIJS. I've included a short description of the webinars below, and a longer version of that info is attached. If you think judges or court personnel in your states (whether in family, probate, dependency, delinquency, or other courts) could benefit from these trainings, please circulating this information to them. The contact person for the webinars is Cristina Cooper with the ABA Center on Children and the Law who can be reached at [email protected] or by calling 202-662-8638. She would be happy to reach out to anyone who may be interested.
Many thanks,
Meredith
A free, two-part webinar series for state court judges will explore the role of state courts in the Special Immigrant Juvenile program, a form of humanitarian relief for certain abused, neglected, or abandoned children. Presented by the ABA Working Group on Unaccompanied Minor Immigrants and co-sponsored by the ABA Judicial Division, these webinars will review the population of potentially eligible youth, current guidelines for "juvenile court" orders, and address challenges and promising practices identified by judges and others.
