5G Technology Hype, Issues, and Public Interest

Anyone interested in more information or in helping with the following please contact me.[1]

The selfish push by the telecommunications industry (telecoms) to install thousands of antennas throughout schools and residential neighborhoods is appalling.[2] The wireless radiation emitted from this mass deployment of this 5G technology (known as "small cell antennas") will have adverse effects on health, safety, privacy, and property rights.[3] In addition, the preemption of local government authority and the public's right to litigate will most likely hurt 99% of New Jersey's 37,462 attorneys which are comprised of solo to small law firms.

The 5G transmitters being installed emit microwaves and essentially function as a cell tower operating at 30GHz to 90GHz.  These transmitters are being installed in the rights-of-way in close proximity to people's bedrooms, and children's schools. The radiation exposure from these transmitters is continuous, cannot be turned off, and increases the dose emitted by cell phone towers. The FCC is not a health-regulating agency. The agency itself admits there is no federally developed national standard for safe levels of exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy.[4] The FCC only regulates communications and methods for limiting electromagnetic interference between devices.[5] For example, although the FCC and FDA both acknowledge that radiation frequencies far less than 5G have been shown to interfere with defibrillators and pacemakers, their "solution" is that people simply "be aware of [their] surroundings" and manufacturers redesign pacemakers and defibrillators so they don't interfere with radiation emitting devices.[6]

The current wireless radiation exposure standards were developed in 1986 and perfunctorily updated in 1993 when wireless devices such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, routers, iPads, smartphones, or any of the high-frequency Wi-Fi networks used in wireless classrooms did not even exist. The standards were created by congressionally chartered private organizations like the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) that were created by the telecommunications industry.[7]  When determining "safe" guidelines for humans, private organizations such as the NCRP, used animals such as rats, squirrel monkeys, and rhesus monkeys. The NCRP irradiated these animals to the point where they would no longer eat, measured their rectal temperatures, and applied these results to humans.[8]  Today, there's incontrovertible proof that the disease mechanisms in animals and humans are very different.  This explains why some drugs that work on animals do not work on humans.  Anyone remember Thalidomide when 10,000 babies were born with birth defects after pharmaceuticals claimed the drug successfully passed animal experiments?  Or, what about all the industry-funded studies that denied or cast doubt on the harmful effects of asbestos and tobacco?

None of the maximum exposure limits purported to be safe are biologically based. They are based on thermal dosimetry, a process that measures the effects of radiation on the temperature of the water inside a "head phantom" (dummy head).[9] Using thermal dosimetry, any level of RF radiation not capable of raising the temperature of a thermometer in the head phantom is deemed safe for humans because it cannot ionize water molecules. This "conclusion", however, is based on thermal heating and deliberately misses what happens non-thermally or sub-thermally. This is something scientists today can show and prove can damage cells and DNA leading to cancer and other pathologies far below the 1986 and 1993 standards.

Radiation harms are also not deterministic events such as trauma that results in immediate physical injury.  It is also a fundamental concept of pathology that biochemical interference in cell structures precedes morphological changes.[10] Unlike trauma, radiation harms require some latent period between exposure and risk of harm.  This period can take anywhere from several years to a person's life-span.  The vast majority of wireless devices have not been around long enough.  Telecoms should not be permitted to use people as guinea pigs.

With respect to privacy rights, the boost 5G will give to facilitating more intrusions into civil liberties is astronomical. The collection and processing of Big Data through existing and new devices connected to the Internet-of-Things will allow telecoms ever more access to private information. Remember that these are the same companies that through the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, were given full-scale immunity from the pending lawsuits for violating privacy and other rights of thousands of Americans.[11]  In my opinion, hardly an industry worth trusting with our health, privacy, and property rights.

Moreover, the partnering of government, telecoms, and public utility companies will permit electric, gas, and water companies to disaggregate consumption data into specific usages that are associated with human activities. Since digital "smart meters", smart home appliances and even fixtures such as showers, sinks, toilets, washers, etc. each have unique consumption patterns, activity analysis using software applications can easily correlate water use patterns measured by smart meters with human activities.  Consequently, using software and graphing capabilities, private companies will easily determine how many people live inside the home, how many showers they take, how many loads of laundry they do, when they go to bed, get up, and even when they are not home.  This will allow utility companies to implement time-of-use billing-a sneaky tactic which studies show only benefits utility companies.  For example, instead of just measuring and charging for consumption, utility companies will be able to control usage by raising rates during peak times.

The further expansion of government and corporate power through 5G technology will mean fewer clients to solo and small firms.
