For the first time in 25 years, New Jersey Lawyer has dedicated an edition to the far-reaching effects of land use law the state.

The August 2023 issue, published by the New Jersey State Bar Association, explores land use and its connection to economic growth, storm planning and diversity, with contributions from key land use lawyers. Topics in the edition address the advent of cannabis stores and the zoning rules that govern them, the strength of New Jersey’s law that prevents discriminatory land use and how commercial farms can add revenue by hosting special occasions.

The edition includes a Q&A with retired New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Barry T. Albin on his life and career, along with practice tips for how young lawyers can approach depositions, recruiting advice for law firms and navigating the diversion process to avoid an ethics violation. NJSBA President Timothy F. McGoughran also reports on the Association’s progress in helping legal professionals and those in the justice system who struggle with a mental health disorder.
