This week in Atlantic City, the New Jersey State Bar Association will kick off its Annual Meeting and Convention, the premier event of the state’s legal community.
More than 3,000 judges, lawyers, law clerks and law students are expected to attend the three-day educational and networking event, held at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa from May 14-16. Legal colleagues from across the state will have the chance to connect over seminars, speeches and networking programs that cover issues in a wide range of practice areas.
The agenda includes over 100 seminars for attendees to earn up to 16 CLE credits in programming that spans nearly every practice area for attorneys to enhance their professional development. This year’s convention pays particular attention to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence in the law. The three-day event will offer seven programs that cover AI’s applications in the law, ethical questions raised by the technology, its potential risks and how attorneys can use AI to their advantage.
Dozens of sitting and retired judges from every federal and state bench in New Jersey, along with top public officials and legal thought leaders, are slated to speak at seminars throughout the week. State Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner and U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey Chief Judge Renée Marie Bumb will each deliver a featured address on issues facing the New Jersey courts. Following their remarks, retired U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer will sit for a special session on the judicial philosophy that informed his nearly three decades on the nation’s highest court. Retired state Supreme Court Justice Barry T. Albin will moderate the discussion.
At an installation ceremony on Thursday, the NJSBA will reorganize its Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. Chrstine A. Amalfe will take the oath as President of the Association for 2025-2026 and share her insights and goals for the year ahead. The NJSBA will also express its thanks to outgoing President William H. Mergner Jr.
