Hear From New Jersey’s Top Legal Minds at the NJSBA 2024 Annual Meeting and Convention

The speaker roster includes a slate of New Jersey federal and state judges, government leaders, the state’s top managing partners, law professors and more. 

Make plans today to take part in the NJSBA’s Annual Meeting and Convention, the premier event of the New Jersey legal community on May 15-17. 

 Learn from jurists, top attorneys in the field and subject-matter experts across 100 continuing legal education programs. Attendees can earn up to 16 CLE credits, including ethics, diversity, equity and inclusion credits and certified civil trial credits. Education programming will cover a wide range of issues in practice areas and include bench-bar conferences.

 Check out the notable speakers attending this year’s conference:

 -The Annual Meeting and Convention will kick off with a keynote presentation on artificial intelligence and its impact on that law. Renowned AI expert Dr. Chris Mattmann will join a panel with Judge Glenn A. Grant, the Acting Administrative Director of the Courts; retired state Superior Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia; New Jersey Public Defender Jennifer N. Sellitti; retired state Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia; retired U.S. District Court Judge Katherine B. Forrest; Patrick Fuller, chief legal strategist at ALM; and NJSBA President-Elect William H. Mergner Jr.

 -Hear from Chief Judge Renée Marie Bumb of the U.S. District Court of New Jersey and New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart J. Rabner about their respective courts, the issues they face and the plans and goals for the year ahead.

 -Philip R. Sellinger, U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, will join FBI Supervisory Special Agent Brett Yeager and others from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for a panel on the latest trend in federal cybercrime investigations.

 -State Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin will moderate a panel on the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in New York v. New Jersey and other recent decisions impacting New Jersey. The panel will include state Solicitor General Jeremy Feigenbaum and Parimal Garg, chief counsel for the New Jersey Office of the Governor.

 -Review the biggest cases before the state Supreme Court in the past year with Supreme Court Justices Rachel Wainer Apter, Anne M. Patterson, Lee A. Solomon and others. Justices Douglas M. Fasciale and Michael Noriega will also share insights on panels.

 -New Jersey legislators will gather to talk about legislation and major developments in the law. Hear directly from state Senators Jon M. Bramnick, Anthony M. Bucco, Linda R. Greenstein, Michael Testa, Raj Mukherji and Holly T. Schepisi; and Assemblymembers Herb Conaway, Jr., Victoria Flynn, Luanne M. Peterpaul, Ellen J. Park and Claire Swift.

 -Learn the important differences between state and federal civil practice from a roundtable of New Jersey federal court judges, including Judge Julien X. Neals, Judge Michael A. Shipp and U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre. The convention will feature other sitting federal court judges, including Judge Christine P. O’Hearn, Judge Zahid N. Quraishi and Judge Evelyn Padin.

 -The NJSBA’s Diversity Committee will host Ryan P. Haygood, president and CEO of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, at its annual luncheon.

 -Review the hottest topics in cannabis law with Chris Riggs, chief counsel at the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission.

 -Director and Chief Judge of the New Jersey Division of Workers’ Compensation Maria Del Valle-Koch will join an interactive discussion on the key aspects of workers compensation law.

 Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division Jack M. Sabatino will moderate a panel on the state Supreme Court recent decision in State v. Olenowski. The panel will feature Jules Epstein, professor of law and director of advocacy programs at Temple University Beasley School of Law.

 -Discover how climate change is impacting minority communities with Shawn M. LaTourette, commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection and Dr. Sarah Das, an associate scientist with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

 -Charles Nechtem, of Charles Nechtem Associates, will discuss the NJSBA’s Member Assistance Program and psychological support services for law professionals and their family members.

 -Get the latest on the new NCAA rules for using an athlete’s image and likeness from NFL Agent Robert S. Roche and Jake Rosenberg, vice president of football administration for the Philadelphia Eagles.

 -Acting New Jersey Comptroller Kevin Walsh and his office will lead a discussion on how the New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller works.

 -The New Jersey State Commission of Investigation members will hold a conversation about the priorities of the office.
