New Jersey State Bar Association President-Elect Timothy F. McGoughran joined acting state Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin for a networking event in Trenton on June 22 to speak about the advantages of joining the state bar.

In a speech to lawyers and staff in the attorney general’s office, McGoughran said the greatest benefit of membership is being part of a powerful network.

“The ability to meet with other smart, talented people to bounce things off the wall. To be a better lawyer,” he said.

Platkin echoed the sentiment, saying his office often partners with the NJSBA on advocacy and training. Being an NJSBA member, he said, is also a great way to stay engaged.

“It helps us do our jobs better. It helps you to get out there and develop skills,” Platkin said.
