There are more ways than ever to reach someone in today’s hyperconnected world. Between email, smartphones and social media, those who can’t manage the flow of information often struggle with productivity.

A free member webinar hosted by the New Jersey State Bar Association on June 21 aims to help them better run their practice, clients and life while juggling their communication platforms. The session will offer advice on topics such as time management, email etiquette, effective meetings and remote workers.

The program, titled “Gold Standard Communication with Clients and Colleagues,” is part of the NJSBA’s PracticeHQ benefit, an information hub with resources for attorneys to learn management and marketing skills. Jeffrey R. Schoenberger, a senior consultant at Affinity Consulting, will lead the webinar.

Attorneys have a bevy of channels to interact with colleagues and clients, such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, or Zoom, not mention social media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. The channels can become either fortuitous or frustrating depending on how they are managed, and each has its benefits and drawbacks.

The seminar will explore which platforms work best for different needs when running a practice or communicating with colleagues and clients. The result can help attorneys improve communication, reduce stress, generate happier clients and lower malpractice risk.

David Dorfman, an elder law attorney in Princeton, said he registered for the webinar to keep up with his younger clients, who often post Google reviews and ask to pay legal fees through Venmo.

“I could use a tip or two to stay communicative with the folks I talk to, even if it sometimes seems we never actually ‘talk’ at all,” Dorfman said.

NJSBA members can access PracticeHQ resources at njsba.com. The webinar is free for members to attend.
