The New Jersey State Bar Association took part in the New Jersey Supreme Court’s annual public rules hearing. The virtual hearing offered a platform for members of the public and the legal profession to offer feedback on proposed court rule changes.
“This provides a meaningful opportunity for a free and open exchange between the organized legal community, the public and the Court on the recommendations of the Court’s Rules Committees,” said NJSBA President Jeralyn L. Lawrence. “What the Court Rules provide matter. The Rule book is a staple in almost every lawyer’s office. We appreciate the time, collaboration and deliberation needed to make sure they are the best that they can be.”
The NJSBA submitted extensive comments and Lawrence provided additional remarks about proposed amendments to the child support guidelines. First Vice President William Mergner Jr. addressed changes in the civil arena, focusing on requests for admissions, and the amendments to the form interrogatories; and Trustee Brian Neary discussed discovery obligations related to jailhouse informants.
