Paris P. Eliades, a former New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) president and a family law practitioner, will receive the 2021 Saul Tischler Award from the NJSBA Family Law Section on Oct. 5 at the Park Chateau Estate and Gardens in East Brunswick.

J. Patrick McShane III, the 2020 Tischler Award recipient, whose recognition was postponed last year, will also be honored.

The Tischler Award recognizes outstanding lifetime achievement in family law and contributions to advancing the development of the practice and profession, community service and dedication to family law issues through education and advocacy.

“I am beaming with pride because I cannot think of two attorneys more deserving than Paris Eliades and Patrick McShane to receive the Saul Tischler Award for outstanding lifetime achievement in family law. Both honorees exemplify the highest level of professionalism in the practice of family law and demonstrate a deep commitment to advancing our profession. They not only readily volunteer their time and talents to better our legal profession, but their public service has made a marked difference in our community. As if that was not enough, both Paris and Pat are really nice guys—genuine —and they each have a heart of gold,” said Robin C. Bogan, chair of the section.

Eliades established a family law practice in Sparta in 2012, after working at a Sussex County private firm covering multiple practice areas. He has been a frequent speaker at the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE) and written about family law matters for New Jersey Lawyer, the magazine of the NJSBA, among other publications.

In 2018, Eliades argued the NJSBA’s amicus position in the matter of Gnall v. Gnall before the New Jersey Supreme Court. The case centered on how a judge set the alimony award in the case and what factors judges should use going forward. The Association urged the Court to make clear that many factors must be considered when reviewing an alimony request. The Court ultimately agreed with that position. That same year, Eliades was awarded the NJSBA’s Solo and Small-Firm Practitioner of the Year Award. During his term as president, Eliades launched a successful effort to raise donations for a campaign called Lawyers Feeding New Jersey, which partnered with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey to provide for residents who faced food instability. Today, he is also a municipal court judge in Hardyston and Sparta.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the Tischler Award. This award is not an ending point, but a reminder to continue to work to advance the practice of family law and to work on the many challenges it presents,” Eliades said.

McShane is a partner at Forkin, McShane, Manos & Rotz, a family law practice in Cherry Hill. He is a member of the Family Law Section’s Executive Committee and a senior editor of New Jersey Family Lawyer, a publication of the section. McShane is a frequent speaker at NJICLE.

“It’s an amazing honor to be considered among those who have received this award, including the late Lee Hymerling, who contributed to the restructuring of the family law practice and introduced me to the New Jersey Family Lawyer, and Richard Russell, one of the top child support experts in the state, who contributed to the development of the federally mandated child support guidelines in New Jersey,” McShane said.
