New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) presidents from the past, present and future administered the traditional Lawyer’s Pledge to first-
year students at the state’s two law schools last week.
Before delivering the oath at Seton Hall Law School, NJSBA President Domenick Carmagnola commended the students for their “fortitude and resilience, and for overcoming obstacles in applying to law school during this historic time, getting in and being here today. The world needs your optimism, your idealism and your sincere desire to make a difference by becoming a lawyer.”
Carmagnola; NJSBA President-Elect Jeralyn L. Lawrence, who spoke at Rutgers Law in Camden; and NJSBA Immediate Past President Kimberly A. Yonta, who spoke at Rutgers Law in Newark, all stressed the advantages of Association membership, which is free for law students.
Yonta told the students they should strive to cultivate integrity, humility, courage and independence during their professional journey.
“As attorneys, you have a critical role to play in our society as stewards of the rule of law,” she said.
