The New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) urges its members and the legal community to remain vigilant against cyberattacks in the wake of massive ransomware attacks on at least 200 companies this weekend.
Similar prior attacks have also latched onto popular software, which they use to spread malware to companies and their customers. Officials do not yet know how many companies are affected by the recent attack.
In addition, tech experts are reminding people to be aware of a vulnerability that can allow criminals to hack into Windows computers. The threat is known as PrintNightmare and is tied to the Windows Print Spooler, a printing program on Windows computers. Learn more about PrintNightmare here.
One of the NJSBA’s critical concerns is helping its members protect their personal and client information. At the NJSBA 2021 Annual Meeting, national experts discussed the massive Solar Winds breach and discussed ways to stay safe. Later this month, the NJSBA is hosting a free webinar for members on how to determine what your technology is collecting about you and how to protect sensitive personal and client information from being swept up in Big Tech’s fishing net.
The key takeaway for keeping yourself and your practice safe from such software attacks: Work closely with an IT provider and employ more than antivirus software. Organizations need to constantly monitor the threat landscape as well as what their software is saying and reporting. Using artificial intelligence combined with live professionals is a helpful tool.
