First meeting of the newly created New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law 

1996

Holds statewide Symposium on Professionalism

1997

  • Presents first Professional Lawyer of the Year
  • Adopts Principles of Professionalism to guide lawyers in their practice, and the Lawyer’s Pledge to remind new lawyers of the responsibilities of the profession
  • Recommends Counseling Program that is adopted by the Court for use by county bar associations

2000

Presents first Daniel J. O’Hern Award to recognize an attorney who exhibits integrity, competence, high ethical standards, career achievement and service to the bar and/or community

2011

Coordinates first statewide Professionalism Day programs where continuing legal education programs focusing on ethics and professionalism are held in state and federal courts throughout the state

2015

Presents first Charles J. Hollenbeck Award to recognize a public service attorney who serves the needs of the legal community with diligence, competence and dedication to the profession

2016

Adopts Principles of Judicial Professionalism

2017

Presents first Lighthouse Award to recognize an attorney who has exhibited the utmost professionalism and integrity throughout their legal career and serves as a beacon of inspiration to their colleagues in the legal profession

2018

Endorses the Joint Unified Mentorship Program

2020

Updates Principles of Professionalism, Lawyer’s Pledge and Judicial Principles of Professionalism
