The New Jersey State Bar Association’s (NJSBA) successful Lawyers Feeding New Jersey (LFNJ) campaign, an initiative of NJSBA President Evelyn Padin that kicked-off in September, has raised nearly $22,000.
Hunger is a pervasive problem in across the country and in New Jersey, nearly 900,000 people, including 330,000 children, don’t have enough to eat every day. The problem is getting worse with the pandemic and economic crisis and more people are struggling to purchase food.
“We are facing uncertain times, many people are unemployed and are facing food insecurity New Jersey lawyers have stepped up to the plate and supported our food bank initiative—Lawyers Feeding New Jersey and our partner, Community FoodBank of New Jersey—particularly when they heard that one in five school children suffer from food insecurity. I am proud that New Jersey lawyers have donated more than $21,000 to that cause and that it will continue,” Padin said.
Carlos Rodriguez, president and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, thanked the Association for its support.
“We are so grateful to the New Jersey State Bar Association, their President Evelyn Padin, and so many others for their help and generous support of the Lawyers Feeding New Jersey campaign. We would not be able to do what we do and feed so many food insecure people throughout the state without their continuous partnership, especially as CFBNJ works to keep up with unprecedented demands during the coronavirus pandemic,” Rodriguez said.
The NJSBA will continue its partnership with Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
