Brian Quigley knows a lot about prioritizing.
He’s in the thick of things in Trenton where 120 legislators help craft the bills that will become laws for the state’s 8.9 million residents.
As the general counsel and deputy executive director of the New Jersey Assembly Majority Office, he helps over 50 assembly members craft legislation in hopes of becoming a law; researches new policies and serves as a staff member to several assembly committees.
Quigley also coached a team that competed in the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition, has done Benchmarks Civics programs, and is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.
In this episode, Quigley talks about his path to Trenton and the draw he felt to public service. He also shares insights about what it is like to work in the Legislature, including how he survived the end of one two-year legislative session wrapped up and launch of the latest.
Quigley also shares thoughts on why it is helpful for lawyers to understand the law-making process and the important role groups like the New Jersey State Bar Association can play in helping legislators understand the issues behind proposed bills and the potential impact they can have.
