Wills for Heroes is seeking volunteer attorneys to help draft free wills and other estate planning documents for first responders at a legal clinic on Saturday at Rutgers Law School–Camden.

The program is sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) and Drescher & Chesler, and presented by the Camden County Bar Association’s Probate & Trust Committee and Rutgers Law Estates & Trusts Society.

What began as a request by Rutgers Law School–Camden students in 2012 to learn more about estates and trusts law has become an annual event, said its coordinator Brenda Lee Eutsler, of Brenda Lee Eutsler and Associates in Cherry Hill, an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School–Camden.

Eutsler, who was chair of the Rutgers Law Estates & Trusts Society at the time, said she had worked with the Wills for Heroes program in northern New Jersey and thought it was a great program that could be brought to southern New Jersey.

“The attorneys have been wonderful in volunteering their time, and it’s a great legal experience for the law students, who have the opportunity to work side-by-side with attorneys in serving the first responders through the preparation of estate planning documents,” Eutsler said.

Volunteer attorneys do not need to have experience drafting wills. Training on the document software will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. in Clark Commons before the first responders arrive. Volunteers should arrive no later than 15 minutes before training.

Experienced estate planning attorneys will supervise the event and Rutgers law students will be on hand to assist volunteer attorneys.

Sessions will be held throughout the day for qualified first responders and their spouses, domestic partners or civil union partners, who are also eligible to participate, Eutsler said.
