NJSBA fall events: A cruise and a gala, plus awards, networking and CLE

With summer winding down, a busy new season is approaching. Here is just a sampling of events being planned by the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) in the coming months. From awards dinners to educational seminars to networking opportunities, you can find myriad activities to meet your requirements and feed your aspirations.  Sept. 8: New Attorney Day

If you were recently admitted to the New Jersey bar, you have a host of continuing legal education requirements to meet. The NJSBA, along with its educational arm, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE), will sponsor New Attorney Day at the New Jersey Law Center as a one-stop opportunity for you to meet all of those requirements. The registration fee includes a one-year membership in the NJSBA, and the day is full of perks such as free headshots, tips on stress management techniques and more. Learn more here.

 

Sept. 17: Medal of Honor Awards Dinner

The New Jersey State Bar Foundation (NJSBF)’s biggest event of the year will be held at the Palace at Somerset Park. The Medal of Honor Award is given each year to those who have made exemplary contributions to improving the justice system and enhancing New Jersey’s legal legacy. This year’s recipients are Linda R. Feinberg, a retired superior court assignment judge in Mercer County, and Justin P. Walder, a partner at Pashman Stein Walder and Hayden. Sept. 20: Spirit of New Jersey Dinner Cruise
The NJSBA Young Lawyers Division will host a party on the Hudson River for all NJSBA members and their guests. It’s a chance to network, have dinner and drinks, and do some dancing against the skyline. Learn more and register.

 

Sept. 20: Annual New Jersey Taxation Court Judges Reception

The 26th annual reception gives NJSBA members the opportunity to meet and greet tax court judges. Judges attend for free. More information.

 

Sept. 27: Art and the Law Symposium and NJSBF Art Show opening

NJICLE's Fifth Annual Art Law Symposium will cover the intersection of immigration law and the art world, graffiti as art, insurance issues and more. After the program, participants are invited to attend the official opening of the 2018 NJSBF Juried Art Show.

 

October 3: Annual Chancery Judges Reception

NJSBA members and non-members alike are welcome to attend this social event welcoming chancery judges and their law clerks to the new term. More information.

 

Oct. 11: New Jersey Commission on Professionalism Awards

Bar associations around the state will recognize individuals respected by their colleagues for their character and exemplary professional behavior at the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law’s annual awards luncheon. The commission will also recognize Richard Badolato as the recipient of the Daniel J. O'Hern Award and David Sciarra as the recipient of the Charles J. Hollenbeck Award. More information.

 

Oct. 24: Pro Bono Conference

The ninth annual Pro Bono conference will include an evening of educational presentations as well as the recognition of this year’s Pro Bono award winners. Awards will go to Jason Scott Camilo, Brian N. Biglin and Prudential Financial in Newark. More information.

 

Oct. 30: Becoming a Culturally Competent Lawyer in a Global Society

Learn from seasoned legal professionals how to successfully navigate our global society. The session’s agenda includes an overview of how implicit bias works; and practical solutions on responding professionally, respectfully and ethically to the needs of your clients and fellow attorneys. Continuing legal education credits are available for this event. More information. 

Oct. 30: NJSBA Annual Open House and Networking Reception

This free networking reception at the New Jersey Law Center will give you the chance to meet colleagues from a variety of practice areas, expand your network, find new ways to save money on products and services, learn to fulfill your CLE requirements and get free professional headshots.
